They aren't, however, as organized/cohesive a group as AAT treat them. Real archaeologists say that the Annunaki are described as anthropomorphic, with incredible powers and a large stature. Importantly, the entire Zonai backstory is lifted directly from AAT interpretations of the Annunaki, ancient Sumerian gods. With a little imagination, and accepting the 21 item build limit as just a game limitation, it's easy to see how Ultrahand could have been used to make monuments.

Interesting, then, that Ultrahand is so much like magnesis from BotW. Leedskalnin seemed to be fascinated with magnets and claimed this was the magical technology he used to build and move his modern day megaliths. Some people, like Edward Leedskalnin, even claimed to know and employ the techniques aliens used to build the pyramid. It's hard to pin down a specific reference for this, but I think most people are familiar with spacecraft picking up cows and the like with tractor beams as if they weren't heavy at all. "Clearly", they had some kind of supernatural technology that allowed them to move the huge stones involved with ease. It's a common AATheory that monuments and megaliths, like the pyramids, couldn't have been built without alien assistance (spoiler: they could and they were). This one is a little less cut and dry, so please bear with me. I'm also really fascinated by the inclusion of Ultrahand. I think the glyphs were made to honor or perhaps even attempt to communicate with her. Ancient Hylians certainly had the tools and the vantage to create the geoglyphs without alien/magical assistance, but what's interesting is that there is actually a specific, aerial audience for these glyphs - The Light Dragon. Impa says that TotK's geoglyphs must have been made by ancient Hylians after encountering the tears. Of course, Wikipedia notes that they absolutely could have been made with tools available at the time, and further that they can be seen well from neighboring foothills. AAT believe they are so large that they could only be seen from an aerial view, like from a spacecraft, and further, that they could not have been made with such accuracy with primitive tools. Many are familiar with the animal images, but most of the Nazca lines are actually just straight lines and geometric shapes. AAT believe that they're runways for alien spacecraft. Their real purpose isn't known, but that's not stopping certain people. Ancient Astronaut Theorists are fascinated with real-life geoglyphs like the Nazca lines. This is just fun, try not to take it too seriously. They have, however, had a huge influence on pop culture. These "theories" are pseudoarchaeology and pseudoscience and not accepted by academics - Nor should they be, as they are wholly baseless and easily debunked. Obviously, now that Tears of the Kingdom is released and I've had time to play it, it's time for round two!Īs a disclaimer, this thread will discuss "Ancient Astronaut Theory" (abbreviated AAT). Enter and light the torch, then use the cloth wisps to fly up and discover the Ancient Glyph.I've noted in a previous thread ( Ancient Astronaut Theory's Influence on BotW) that BotW heavily borrows ideas that pseudoarchaeologists (aka "ancient astronaut theorists") are fascinated with. Near the beginning of your ascent, you'll come across a cave to your left. This room is also home to one of the Temple Symbols. Enter the chamber where he was housed to find the one Ancient Glyphs in the area. The only hidden one can be found after you've raised the magic up high enough to release the cloth whale. When you spot a small gathering of cloth wisps that get destroyed by one of the beasts, quickly move to the lefthand wall to spot the Ancient Glyph.Īlthough there are numerous murals to interact with throughout the Temple, all but one are found automatically by completing the level.

The lone Glyph in the Underground Passage can be found in the area patrolled by the Guardian. Before you kneel at the altar, look to the left to spot the mural hidden in the shadows. The second Ancient Glyph is found at the very end of the Sunken City. Ride them up and to the right to find the Ancient Glyph. As soon as you land in this small valley, head straight forward until you spot a gathering of small cloth wisps. The first Glyph in the Sunken City can be found in the first area where you finally stop sliding down.
